Continue to the Garden of Gethsemane and the Pools of Bethesda before entering the Old City. David, Goliath & Emmaus
David, Goliath & Emmaus
Today explores the biblical landscapes of the Judean foothills, where stories from both the Old and New Testaments are connected to the land itself. Begin at Tel Azekah, the archaeological mound overlooking the Valley of Elah, traditionally associated with the battlefield of David and Goliath.
From the summit, look across the valley described in the Book of Samuel and imagine the setting where the armies of Israel and the Philistines faced one another. Continue to Emmaus Nicopolis, connected to the Gospel of Luke and the appearance of Jesus to two disciples after the resurrection. The site preserves remains from early Christian pilgrimage and Byzantine tradition.
